| Ask |
The price at which your broker or spreadbetting company sells and therefore at which you can buy the contract (bet) quoted. |

The price at which your broker or spreadbetting company buys and therefore at which you can sell the contract (bet) quoted. |

(‘Take’, ‘go long’) means you make an up bet (or close a down bet), expecting the price to increase. |
| Market Order |
An order to buy or sell a spread bet at the current bid or offer. |
| Sell |
(‘Give’, ‘go short’) means you make a down bet (or close an up bet), expecting the price to fall. |

The direction in which we are trading (ie Long or Short). |
| Stop Loss |
A price at which a position will be closed to protect against further loss. |
| Symbol |
Also known as "ticker", this is the abbreviated name for an instrument. For example the Standards & Poor 500 is often just referred to as the S&P, the Deutsche Aktien Xchange 30 is known as the DAX, etc. |
| System |
A trading "system" is simple a set of rules that dictate when a trade is opened and closed. For example, BUY if certain price or volume criteria are met. |
